Hi, I'm Ian!

I'm an artist, photographer, animal rescuer, and general doer of stuff!

I have several pets; Abby (big white dog), Jellie (little travel cat) and Luci (antisocial stay-at-home-and-knock-things-off-the-counter cat). They're all super weird and I love them to pieces. I've raised several birds, three chipmunks, over four hundred foster kittens, and even a raccoon I named Rocket!

I live in a little cabin in the woods of Cadillac, Michigan, and love every moment I get to wake up without hearing the cars roaring past. Before Michigan, I lived in North Carolina (right near Asheville), and before that I lived in Florida... Man, I just keep going North. I always joke, in another ten years I may end up in Alaska! But I just love it here in Michigan. The abundance of nature is just stunning and having real Winters is certainly an experience... I do miss the mountains, but up here we get the Northern Lights! Hard to beat that!

My hobbies and life goals have changed more than I could possibly count. From drawing and felting to painting and bookbinding, writing and collecting to building and designing... But nothing seems as right to me as photography.

I hadn't had a good camera, well, ever. Not until my aunt let me borrow hers (read: lend, knowing she's never getting it back), and then I realized... Having the drive to go outside and take a picture has completely renewed my sense of beauty and longing for experiences, and my appreciation of nature and the world around us.

These days it's easy to get so overwhelmed with the awful things happening in the world that we look around and feel that everything is doomed... And, you know, maybe it is... But you don't have to go very far to find at least a little snapshot of something beautiful, if you're looking hard enough.

That's my goal. That's what I'd like my life to be about. Finding those snapshots, and sharing them with the people who wish to see that beauty.
